Pipe Band

The NACIS Pipe Band, from Nord Anglia Chinese International School in Shanghai’s Minhang district, is the first known student pipe band in China. Formed in 2023 under the direction of Pipe Major Matthew Kidd (originally from Glasgow) and Pipe Sergeant Allan Price, the band includes 14 young pipers and drummers aged 8–15.

Since their debut at the school’s Graduation Ceremony, the students have performed across Shanghai, including a landmark concert blending Scottish pipes with Chinese Suona and folk music. Guided by the ethos “Commitment, Professionalism, Fun,” the band continues to grow and inspire — performing at cultural events and even appearing at Tartan Day 2025 in New York.
